Home Organizing Tips
NEED MOTIVATION? Start by taking a walk through each room.  As you QUICKLY survey the contents grab two items from each room that you QUICKLY identify as NLN (no longer needed).  You'll know these items right off; perhaps it's an outdated flower arrangement in the living room and dusty candles on a shelf. Take the items you've collected from each room and either throw them in the trash...yes, right now!...or start a donation pile.  Keep doing this for a few days or a couple of weeks and as the pile grows you'll find yourself getting motivated to organize at least a drawer, closet or an entire room. You'll also identify areas that you can organize yourself or need to call in a friend to help...or better yet, CALL ME!

Do you find your horizontal surfaces are looking CLUTTERED? Perhaps they've collected little "collectibles" over the past few weeks or months.  When it's time to dust, remove all items off the surface and place them in a box or other container.  Replace only 3 - 5 of your favorite items. You can later sort through what's left in the box and decide to dontate, trash or store it away for displaying later.  The fewer the dust collectors you have the easier it is to dust.

BATHROOM: Give each person a small tote for their belongings. Designate a place under the sink or on a wall shelf as "tote zone".  Each person will find it easy to replace their shampoos, creams, makeup, toothpaste, etc.  in the tote and put it away daily.  This should help keep the counter tops clutter free and easier to wipe clean.

Keep glass cleaner wipes in the bathroom to do a quick mirror cleaning and wiping off faucets, sinks, counters.

MAGAZINES are a big clutter problem.  When you have a few minutes, corral all magazines and catalogs into one pile and put them near your favorite TV or reading chair. The next time you sit down sort through the pile and quickly determine what's to be tossed/recycled and what to keep. Allow yourself to keep no more than two publications and limit it to the last 6 issues. Keep them in a magazine file so when it gets full you'll know to toss the oldest issue.  Most home organizing magazines and catalogs have on-line websites where you can find any of the hints and tips you found useful.
